Why on earth did Microsoft change the extension for Word files anyway? You need to contact Microslop customer or technical support regarding when they will fix this problem with an Entourage update or if they have a work around.

User profile for user: ChrisJ ChrisJ Mar 20, PM in response to carlberg In response to carlberg I cannot specifically address the use of Office on a Mac, but the file extension for newer Office files being docx means they are Office XML files.
The extension is the same for Office , the Microsoft version for the PC. The x is appended to the file extension for the other Office products as well for the PC. I have no trouble opening a Word file with the docx extension when created in Word on my PC. There is a setting in Word that allows you to change the default save if you want to change it back to doc. That would put the file in compatability mode.
It can be opened by newer and older versions of Word, however a docx file cannot be opened by an older version. If you go to the settings section, then save section, you can change the default file setting. User profile for user: stweath stweath. Just to be sure, quit and restart Word. Apple has made the lack of accessible file system a little easier to swallow over the past couple years, specifically with the expansion of iCloud services but also with the Files app, a front facing app for most files stored in iCloud.
Apple has also opened things up to third-party applications. Dropbox is probably the most familiar name in the space. Google Drive is also a popular option, and for those users who have limited iCloud storage, these two services might be the best options to download files. They will be stored in the cloud and accessible from the device, and in some cases, users will be able to download them for offline access.
In which case, they will be on the device itself as well. No matter what, files will have to be downloaded to a cloud service. It can be iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, or other similar services.
We are using the Files app because this is a stock application that comes with all iPhones and iPads. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Safari and open the file you are trying to download. In this example, we are trying to download a PDF file.
Select Save to Files. From there, you will be able to enable the Files extension. And yes, you can download multiple files at the same time. Step 4: From here, you can see the progress of the download. If you want to stop or pause the download, you can tap on the X icon. Step 5: To delete a download, swipe left on it and tap on the Delete button. And if not, you can tap on the Share button to open it in a compatible app.
This means that you can now download any file in Safari, without the need for a third party download manager and then you can use Files to open the file in any supported app.
And now that Files app supports external storage in both iPhone and iPad, you can actually transfer a downloaded file to a flash drive this even works for sending books to Kindle.
By default, every download goes directly to a Downloads folder in iCloud Drive. All your downloads will be available across all your Apple devices.
