They could change at any point in time, the web server could get infected at any time, they could accidentally upload a virus infected zip file. On the internet there is no such thing as safe. Just assurances of competency. If one of these pop up mods websites starts dishing out viruses then its not going to effect them, they could just start another under a different name.

At least with BeamNG you know that they have to protect their users in order to protect themselves from the bad press. Same goes for YouTube or Google etc. Even then you still get big brands getting hacked due to incompetent security.

Even if the owners of those mod websites mean well the chances are that someone could find a way to infect them in some way. On a side note, never ever use an exe based installer for a game mod from a shady website. Its just asking for bad stuff to be installed. Even if you do have anti virus software installed, just don't.
